Wildfire Restaurants

Solid fuel cooking, fire and flame characterise the Wildfire concept.
Thechurrasco, or Brazilian BBQ, provides a significant challenge for the mechanical services designer.

Heatwave provided design solutions, fabricated, and installed systems for the space air conditioning;, solid fuel cooking hoods and exhaust systems; conventional gas cooking hoods and exhaust systems; gas “ wildfire “ flame effects and general make up ventilation.

Copper and stainless steel exhaust hoods, designed to compliment the visual performance and excitement of the concept were a special feature of these installations.


The Gem Resort , Bay of Many Coves

South Island, NZ - remote installation.

Off the beaten track, situated in the Marlborough Sounds, this resort is reputed to offer some of the best fish dishes in New Zealand.

With vehicle access only by boat , it provided a challenge to design and fabricate the kitchen hoods and extract systems from architect’s plans, without the security of site measurement.

The systems were required to be adaptable enough to be shipped to the resort and installed, on the assumption that they could be manipulated on site should conditions not match the drawings.


Rutherford Hotel

Nelson, NZ –  creative solutions

Not exactly nuclear science , but certainly some creative thinking was required to accommodate the aspirations of a leading NZ chef and restaurateur, for the expanded catering operations of the Hotel.

Working within strict existing physical limitations, Heatwave designed, fabricated and installed systems that added a 30% increase in capacity to the catering operations.

This required the reconfiguration of existing exhausts, adding new hoods and fans, whilst maintaining operations throughout the build.
